Blue Carbon Society joined"Thailand Dugong & Seagrass Week 2022"



Blue Carbon Society was honored to join "Thailand Dugong & Seagrass Week 2022" and to sign a memorandum of understanding on setting up the "Research Institute for the Conservation of Dugongs and Rare Marine Animals", between the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR), Blue Carbon Society, and Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, Trang Campus on 17 August 2022.




Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, presided at the opening ceremony for "Thailand Dugong & Seagrass Week 2022" with Mr. Jatuporn Burusphat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment; Director-General of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources; Prof. Dr. Suwat Tanyaros, Rector of Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya; Asst. Prof. Kosin Pattanamanee Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, Trang Campus; Dr. Jwanwat Ahriyavraromp, President of Blue Carbon Society, and Mrs. Thippaporn Ahriyavraromp, Vice President, along with government agencies, the private sector, marine protection volunteers, students, media, and local people. More than 1,000 people attended the event at the main conference room of Thumrin Thana Hotel at Muang District in Trang Province.




Participants explored the area where the institute will be set up at Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, Trang Campus, at Sikao Bay. They released sea turtles and watched a demonstration of seagrass restoration.
